In this article, we studied Different Types of Chemical Reactions with detailed explanation for class 10 Science chemistry Chapter Chemical Reactions Reactions and Equations
There are many types of chemical reactions but in class 10 we studied only four types of Chemical Reactions
- Combination Reactions
- Decomposition Reactions
- Displacement Reactions
- Double Displacement Reactions
Types of Chemical Reactions
Combination Reactions:
The reactions in which two or more substances combine to form a single substance under suitable conditions.
Examples: (i) Combustion of Coal,
(ii) Combustion of Hydrogen,
(iii) Combination between hydrogen and chlorine.
Decomposition Reactions:
The reactions in which a single substance splits into two or more simple substances under suitable conditions
Examples: (i) Decomposition of Potassium chlorate,
(ii) Decomposition of Lime Stone,
(iii) Decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide.
Displacement Reactions:
The chemical reaction in which one element takes the position or place of another element present in a compound.
Examples: (i) Zinc displaces iron from the aqueous solution of ferrous sulphate,
(ii) Iron displaces lead from the aqueous solution of lead nitrate.
Double Displacement Reactions:
The chemical reactions in which one component of each of both the reacting molecules get exchanged to form the products. This means that double displacement has taken place.
Examples: (i) On mixing an aqueous solution of silver nitrate with that of sodium chloride, a curdy white precipitate of silver chloride is formed,
(ii) On mixing an aqueous solution of lead nitrate with that of sodium sulphate, a white precipitate of lead sulphate is formed
